The CC 72000 was considered the most powerful Diesellok of the SNCF when it made its rail debut in 1967. With its diesel-electric drive, the series was suitable both for high speeds and for hauling heavy loads. For over 40 years, the SNCF used the locomotives for express trains – for example, on the railway lines between Lyon and Marseille or Paris and Basel – and for heavy goods trains.
